O Holy Night

As I sit at my computer and hear Oscar in the other room preparing for Christmas, I cannot help but think how hundreds of years ago a righteous young woman gave birth in a lowly manger to the son of God.  My very favorite Christmas carol is "O Holy Night". It always give me goose bumps.

O holy night, the stars are brightly shining
It is the night of our dear Saviour's birth

Long lay the world in sin and error pining
'Til he appeared and the soul felt it's worth

A thrill of hope, the weary world rejoices!
For yonder breaks a new and glorious morn!

Fall on your knees, oh hear the angel voices!
Oh night divine, oh night when Christ was born!
Oh night divine, oh night, oh night divine!

Chains shall he break, for the slave is our brother
And in his name all oppression shall cease

Sweet hymns of joy, in grateful chorus raise we
Let all within us praise his holy name!

Christ is the Lord, let ever, ever praise we
Noel, noel! Oh night, oh night divine!
Noel, noel! Oh night, oh night divine!
Noel, noel! Oh night, oh night divine!

I know that there are a lot of versions of this song, but this one is my favorite. I love the line

"Long lay the world in sin and error pining
'Til he appeared and the soul felt it's worth"

We truly do pine for Christ in our life's and he is were we find our greatest sense of worth

I also love the line

"Fall on your knees"

whenever I hear this part I think to myself how elated the world must have been to know that the long awaited Savior was born, was here to save us from our sins and show us the way back to the Father.  That we should fall on our knees to rejoice his Holy name.

I bear testimony of his reality. That he lives. That he came to show us the way back to our Heavenly Father. That through him we may be forgiven and may be with our families forever. He is The Prince Of Peace, he is Our Redeemer. I am so grateful that he came to earth so many years ago and that he died for me. I love him. It brings tears to my eyes as I sit here and write this. I hope to be with him again one day. I cannot wait for the day that I see his face and I hope he welcomes me back with open arms and says to me "Well done, my good and faithful servant".

May every soul know its worth this Christmas and may 2009 bring peace on earth.  This is my Christmas wish.
Love, The Poort Family

I don't know you. I happened upon your blog a few months ago catching up with friends from High School. The Poorts always held a special place with my family because we moved into their ward from an island, Guam. And here I am years later carrying on with whatever this crazy life throws at us...but in the middle of it all there is a sweet and beautiful voice, speaking out about the truth! Your testimony has touched my heart-miles away and I hope that many more people will read this blog and feel the Spirit testifying to them. Thank you for sharing it with the world. We might not all be able to be missionaries right now-"mom" is an important task-but I think you are proclaiming the truth to the world! Thank you again for letting me feel a moment of peace in the Chaos of raising Children! Merry Christmas!
