look very carefully and you can see the hummingbird's nest...

Now that the babies are getting older and taking less time to care for during the day, I am finding a little more time on my hands to do things that I would like to do. Oscar and I have been wanting to put in our grass since we moved in. We did the stamped concrete last year and finally got our grass in that past weekend. Wow. What a process. Thanks to our friend Chad we managed to get it all done in a day. We did almost 1700 square feet of grass. What a job. We also planted a bunch of flowers around my existing fruit trees.

I also decided that I wanted to start a vegetable garden. I have been feeling the itch to do something in addition to my photography. I needed something a little more physical, and away from my computer. I also wanted something that I could share with my kiddos and that could be a great source of learning for them. I also think it is super cool to grow your our veggies. Super resourceful, especially in this economy.
My Mom and I built 2 4x6 flower beds out of wood and I planted a variety of herbs, cucumbers, carrots, lettuce, spinach, tomatoes, zucchini, squash and a bunch of different melons. I have totally found a new love. I love gardening. I can't wait to have my first salad with vegetables from my garden and to make homemade pasta sauces. My Mom always gardened when I was growing up and I never quite understood why she liked it so much until now. It is so nice to be able to take a break from working at the computer to go outside and garden. I have totally found a new love.
The coolest thing by far today was that my Mom found a hummingbird's nest outside of my office window. SO COOL. I actually saw her fly away as I went out to take a picture.
On a side note... I would like to give a little shout out to the pioneers. They worked so incredibly hard. I just kept thinking about them all day yesterday as I was digging and digging and digging. At least they got to go to Salt Lake where the dirt is nice! But man it must have been so physically exhausting. I am so grateful I was born to this generation!

Chad was so sore today! Those boys really must have worked hard yesterday because it takes a lot to get Chad to be sore! He said that it looked great though...enjoy your new landscaping!
